Students and parents on Friday demanded the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to announce summer vacations from June for educational institutions due to the terrible heat.

The weather has become unbearable for school going children, many of whom were suffering from heat-related ailments.

They were not able to focus on their studies during exams owing to prolonged power outage, which reduced their stamina and disrupted their sleep.

“Several children faint during the assembly and classes due to the persistent hot weather “, said a local college instructor, Tahir. The authorities must announce vacations right after the papers end to protect the children from the heat, he added.

A concerned parent, Shagufta said, “I am sending my children to school only for their exams. They are completely exhausted due to the intense heat.”Classrooms lack generators or Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and load shedding during school hours has posed a serious health risk for my children, she declared.

Shagufta urged the FDE to announce vacations soon after the exams end, so that students can be relieved of their tough routine.

According to weather experts, the current heat wave is unusual for May. The temperature has peaked tremendously, breaking a 29-year-old record in Pakistan.
