A prologue to Chinese PM’s visit to Pakistan, Chinese delegation visits NUML

A Chinese delegation’s visit to the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Tuesday ahead of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Pakistan anticipated the mounting warmth between the two countries through cultural and academic links.

The delegation was headed by Confucius Institute Headquarters Chief Executive and Hanban Director General Xu Lin and will also be a part of the Chinese Premier’s entourage this week. It includes renowned Chinese academics, educationists and scholars such as Hanban General Affairs Director Xia Jianhui and Fanding from the Chinese Development Planning Commission.

The students of NUML’s Chinese department, Roots International and other institutions presented a colourful cultural show for the guests. They sang popular Chinese songs, displayed martial arts, recited poems, and rendered a performance on different cultures of Pakistan to famous folk tunes.

Earlier, Xu Lin in her meeting with NUML Rector Major General (Retired) Masood Hasan and Director General (DG) Brigadier Azam Jamal said that “we are satisfied with the achievements of the Confucius Institute Islamabad, NUML and I am glad to see that NUML has done a tremendous job for the learning and promotion of Chinese in a short span of time”. The Confucius Institute Headquarters in China would continue to provide syllabus, study material, native Chinese language teachers, trainings and scholarships to assist NUML in meeting the increasing demand of Chinese language learning and teaching, she added.

Xu Lin also said that the NUML administration’s efforts towards making Chinese a popular language were commendable. A harmonious world could be created through linguistic and cultural linkages, she held.

DG Brig Azam Jamal briefed the delegation about the goals, functions and achievements of the Confucius Institute, NUML.
