Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jehangir Tareen on Tuesday alleged that he was defeated in the May 11 general elections under a well-planned conspiracy.

Addressing a press conference along with PTI’s Information Secretary Shireen Mazari, Tareen said he was leading by 40,000 votes on election night, but next morning he lost by over 10,000 votes. He alleged that his defeat was a part of a well-planned conspiracy.

“Our polling agents were forcefully dragged out of polling stations in NA-154 Lodhran,” he said, terming the May 11 poll as returning officers’ election.

“At my request, vote re-count is under way in my constituency. I will announce my next course of action after the recounting,” Tareen said.

The PTI leader claimed that 26,000 bogus votes had so far emerged in the re-counting. He said his win would be announced soon after the completion of the re-counting. He said severe mismanagement was witnessed during the re-count. He said the seals of 170 sealed bags were broken, voting bags were torn, there were no stamps of assistant presiding officers on counter files of 26,500 votes and 934 unused ballot papers were missing from the bag.

Speaking on the occasion, Shireen Mazari said that blatant rigging was carried out in the election.

She said a demand of Rs 15 per vote verification from the candidate by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was quite unjust.
