The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned Passport Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema on Tuesday to explain the quality of lamination paper to be used in issuance of the passports.
A single-member bench, comprising of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, resumed hearing of a plea filed by a French company through its lawyer Salman Akram Raja against the awarding of contract of passport lamination papers to a company without following Public Procurement Rules.
During the course of hearing, Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the petitioner, apprised the bench that the management of passport had ignored the security factor in the contract process for import of lamination paper.
He argued that the security/transparency of the lamination paper was put at stake for just to save the money.
After hearing the arguments, the bench summoned the Passport DG and adjourned the hearing until May 21.
