As temperatures increase announcing the arrival of summer, electricity shortfall in the country increased to 5,000 MW on Friday when the total power generation was recorded at 9,750 MW against a demand of 14,008 MW during the last 24 hours.
The country was hit by a severe energy crisis on Friday, as electricity shortage swelled to a higher rate.
The nationwide electricity shortfall swelled beyond 60 percent, causing between 10 to 12 hours of load shedding in urban areas and between 14 to 20 hours of power outage in rural areas.
The current gas crisis coupled with severe fuel shortage had already robbed the sector of more than 4,000 MW.
Meanwhile, a heat wave will engulf most parts of the country from next week including plain regions of Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh hinting towards a worsening load shedding situation with energy demands rising.
An official of Meteorological department said on Friday that the current temperature fell under normal category as the mercury raised three degrees above the average temperature for summer.
“When the temperature increases five or more degrees from the normal range it is considered to be hit by a heat wave and from next week it is expected that the mercury would cross the normal limit,” he added.
The wave, the official said, would affect plain areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and people would have to face severe hot weather in these areas.
During the next 24 hours, hot and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country.
Seasonal low has encompassed Balochistan and adjoining areas as a continental air prevails over most parts of the country.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh and Balochistan, hot and dry weather is expected mainly over most parts during the next 24 hours.
While in Kashmir and Gilgit, dry weather is expected in most parts during the next 24 hours.
The highest temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours were Larkana at 48° Celsius, Shaheed Benazirabad, Turbat and Jaccobabad at 47° Celsius and Rohri, Padidan, Dadu, Sukkar, Moenjodaro and RY Khan at 46° Celsius.
In Islamabad the recorded mercury level was 36° Celcius, Lahore 41° Celsius, Karachi 36° Celsius, Peshawar 40° Celsius, Quetta 34° Celsius, Murree 26° Celsius, Muzaffarabad 38° Celsius, Gilgit 35° Celsius, Faisalabad 40° Celsius and Multan 42° Celsius.
Electricity shortfall is increasing day by day that is bad effected to our society and economic progress. No country can go towards prosperity if they have no basic resources government should take action and try to give the basic resources to our people.
