Abducted US citizen recovered from posh locality

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and police undertook a joint operation in the Defence area of the metropolis in the wee hours of Friday and recovered a Pakistani-origin US citizen, after killing at least three abductors in the ensuing action.

The CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy told reporters that Amir Hamza was abducted from the city area of Boat Basin during evening hours between April 13 and 14. The miscreants later called his family and demanded a ransom of Rs20 million for his release.

According to the CPLC chief, police received a tip-off that the kidnappers were keeping Hamza in Defence Phase-II area. In response, the personnel from the CPLC and police conducted a raid in the said area and were faced by with resistance as the miscreants started firing.

As a result, at least three abductors were killed in the exchange of fire and two miscreants, including a woman, were detained by the police.
