After election alliance against the Pakistan People’s Party that somehow damaged the party’s vote bank in recent polls, another grand alliance under the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) chief Pir Pagara is on the cards that will demand re-polling in a majority of Sindh’s constituencies on account of alleged, it has been learnt.

All politico-religious parties will be included in the grand alliance, except the Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

After the grand alliance is officially announced by the leadership of the parties, the demand from them will be free, fair and transparent re-election under the supervision of Pakistan Army in constituencies where polls were allegedly rigged, insiders told Pakistan Today.

The parties that will likely join the grand alliance include PML-N, PML-F, JI, JUI-F, Pakistan Sunni Tehreek, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, National People’s Party, Sindh United Party, Awami Tehreek, MQM-Haqiqi, Muttahida Deeni Mahaz and Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party.

Moreover, Pir Pagara has tasked party’s General-Secretary Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh with contacting all political and religious forces for the grand alliance, so that a strong demand for re-elections on Sindh’s allegedly rigged constituencies could be made from the newly-elected government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), sources added.

The sources said Shaikh met leaders of all political parties and submitted a detailed report to Pir Pagara who would bring all leaders at one platform to launch a massive movement against the alleged rigging in the general elections by the PPP and the MQM.

Under the strategy, a massive protest movement would be launched in Sindh alone against the alleged poll rigging that would include protest demonstration, blockade of roads and highways, shutter down and sit-ins, the sources added.

“We already have a ten party alliance intact, however, a meeting has been convened to decide whether to revive the old grand alliance or form a new alliance. Pir Pagara will take final decision in this regard,” Imtiaz Shaikh told Pakistan Today.
