Lok Virsa inaugurates Arabian culture exhibit

The National Heritage & Integration Ministry Lok Virsa on Thursday created a Cultural Diorama on Saudi Arabia titled “Al-Ghadeer” at the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology (PNME).

Lok Virsa has allocated a spacious hall in the PNME for this purpose. The Saudi government contributed artifacts through its Islamabad mission.

An inaugural ceremony for the Saudi diorama was held at the Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, which was graced by the Saudi Ambassador Dr Abdul Aziz Bin Ibrahim Al-Ghadeer and caretaker Religious Affairs Federal Minister Shahzada Jamal Nazir.

The Heritage Museum showcases living cultural traditions and lifestyle in Pakistan. Covering 60,000 square feet of space, the museum boasts of thematic heritage displays and link passages with those countries that have possess cultural affinity with Pakistan. So far, link passages with Iran, China, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan which tastefully exhibit the cultures of these countries.

The Saudi ambassador said “Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan, a Muslim brother country. Pakistan has a rich and diverse culture, and it has been creatively presented at the Heritage Museum”.

He hoped that the new government’s formation will overcome the challenges the Pakistani nation faces, assuring Saudi support for the newly elected government.

The National Heritage and Integration Federal Minister said, “Pakistan enjoys friendly relations Saudi Arabia’s government. These relations have been nurtured over time, built on love, compassion and mutual trust.”

The minister thanked the ambassador for his personal efforts in making the Arabian culture exhibit possible. He also commended Lok Virsa’s contribution in documenting and preserving the cultural heritage of Pakistan and other friendly countries at the Heritage Museum.

In his welcoming remarks Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said, “Most museums in Pakistan are predominantly archaeological with a heavy colonial influence. The Heritage Museum is the first museum of ethnology in the country which presents the history and living traditions from mainstream and remote regions. Its location in the federal capital makes it a national asset and increases Islamabad’s attractions”.
