Thirty-four independent members of provincial assembly (MPAs) have announced to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after the party won the historic May 11 polls.
The PML-N swept Punjab to secure a huge mandate, enjoying clear majority as opposed to other political parties, which will enable it to form a government in the province without needing any other party’s support.
Moreover, in order to strengthen its position and enlist independent candidates, the PML-N has formed a committee, consisting of Khawaja Ahmed Hassan, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Saad Rafique.
The 34 MPAs met Hassan in Raiwind and announced to join the PML-N.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which is the second largest party in Punjab, has secured only 18 seats in the Punjab Assembly.
This indicates that the PML-N would not be facing a strong opposition in Punjab.
Separately, Sardar Bahadur Khan Maikan, MPA-elect from PP-38, joined the PML-N. Maikan announced this while talking to reporters. He said he was already affiliated with the PML-N. Since the party ticket was allotted to a wrong person, therefore he contested the election as an independent candidate. He said the seat was a gift to the party leadership.
