Iranian president criticised for involvement in presidential campaign

Iran’s Guardian Council spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei criticized Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad due to his accompany with a nominee in presidential election registration.
Ahmadinejad accompanied his Office head Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei during his registration for presidential election race in Iran’s Interior Ministry on Saturday. According to Mehr report, Kadkhodaei said on May 12 that Ahmadinejad’s action was illegal.
“We discussed Ahmadinejad’s support to a special candidate among Guardian Council’s members and recognized his action illegal. The case would be submit to Judiciary System for investigation” he said.
Ahmadinejad during registration of Mashaie said that “I am Mashaei and Mashaei is me”. The last opportunity to registration for presidential elections ended on May 11. Iran’s Guardian Council should vet for candidates’ qualification in five days starting on May 12. During in a speech to the journalists Mashaei said that his way is continuance of Ahmadinejad’s.
The next presidential elections in Iran are planned to be held on June 14, 2013.
The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country’s constitutional laws. Iranian president supports the head of his administration Rahim Mashaei who is also the father-in-law of Ahmadinejad’s son. Some representatives of the ruling Conservative Coalition accused Mashei on fighting with Islamic rules, publishing deviant ideas and transgressing the commandments of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei.
It’s not clear whether Mashaei could pass the Guardian Council’s vetting for his qualifications or not.
Mashaei said that he would respect laws in case his qualifications are not approved by Guardian Council.
