The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced extension of polling time by an hour up to 6:00 pm in Saturday’s general elections.
While the ECP had earlier fixed polling time from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, during the course of the day, it was announced that polling will continue till 6 pm all over the country.
The duration was extended after polls were delayed at several polling stations due to various reasons.
Also, the ECP had decided to extend the polling time in Karachi’s seven national and 14 provincial assembly constituencies till 8:00pm.
According to sources, Karachi’s NA-250 was facing continuous trouble as the polling material and polling officers were not present at booths. In addition, serious rigging had been reported at a polling station.
Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim told media personnel that polling in Karachi was being delayed deliberately as polling material and other stationary had been snatched at different areas of the city.
