The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday disposed of a petition filed by former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif against a TV advertisement being run by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) after the former chief minister faced a barrage of arguments by PPP lawyers.

The court also withdrew the interim order for withholding display of the advertisement that had been the cause of the dispute in courts.

According to details, a three-member bench of the LHC took up the petition for hearing. PPP General Secretary Latif Khosa and Aitzaz Ahsan appeared in the court for the hearing.

Both Khosa and Ahsan opposed the interim order granted by the court for preventing the screening of the advertisement.

They argued that the Supreme Court (SC) had already accepted the telephonic conversation as evidence and there was no harm in making it public. They further said that no legal limit had been placed on its screening.

Furthermore, they argued that the issue of receiving of money by Sharif brothers from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) had also been mentioned in SC decision in the Asghar Khan case. They said that in the light of the SC ruling, proceedings could be initiated against them and they could be barred from contesting in elections.

When the court sought a reply from Shahbaz Sharif’s lawyer to counter arguments made by the PPP lawyers, he said that relief had been provided to them and withdrew the petition. Subsequently, the LHC disposed of the case.

  1. And you want me believe that Judiciary is independent and not biased towards PML-N.

  2. judges are the biggest problem Pakistan is facing today. They are more corrupt than the police or customs.

  3. Haha. Look at the PML-N lackey defending their lords by defaming the judiciary. It must be a sad existance living without any self respect. I say that as no self respecting person can condone a crime. There is no doubt Shahbaz Sharif asked for something unethical if not illegal of Justice Qayum. Disgraceful.

  4. in real democracies, this call should have made sharifs out of politics and barred from power ever again. This also shows how they twist the judges in own favour, no wonder 15 years on and they being defaulter of 30 Billions and still able to contest elections and fool people. PPP done well to slap on the face and they should not just threaten but actually take on these very "sharifs" goons too.

    • Don't get too excited there bud,PPP ain't exactly loaded with honest people, most all of them have cases of corruption against them starting with the President and the PM.All in all, they are all the same. One last thought,if we get rid of the molvi's and the judges,Pakistan would be a million times better place.Lets face it,if we bring judges from another country and present all the cases, all of these politicians would end up in jail.
