Pakistan attaches great importance to ECO: Salman

ISLAMABAD – Secretary-General ECO Mohammad Yahya Maroofi on Friday met Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir at the Foreign Office and informed him about status of the initiatives taken by the ECO in multiple domains. Lauded efforts of the secretary general in giving a new momentum to multi-dimensional cooperation in the organisation, Salman Bashir said Pakistan attached great important to cooperation within the ECO framework.
“The ECO secretary-general mentioned the initiatives about transport, finance, science and technology as well as establishing ECO ambassadors’ forum in various capitals and collaboration among the Foreign Service institutes of the ECO member states,” said a foreign office statement. Yahya was also assured of Pakistan’s full support and commitment to the realisation of ECO’s objectives.
On the other hand, Director General Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Ambassador Martin Dahinden also held a meeting with Salman at the Foreign Office during which various matters of common interest, including regional and global developments were discussed in detail.
The foreign secretary elaborated Pakistan’s vision of trans-regional development cooperation while the Swiss official briefed him on the SDC’s activities in Pakistan.
Salman welcomed the interest shown by the SDC and noted that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Switzerland had always remained close and cordial. Pakistan deeply valued Swiss assistance in the wake of the floods catastrophe, he added.
