JUD rolls up sleeves against measles

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD) has joined hands with the Punjab Health Department in the fight against measles. In this connection, JUD Chief Hafiz Saeed inaugurated a free vaccination drive against the deadly epidemic in the metropolitan on Friday.

According to sources, eight teams have been formed who will vaccinate children during a door-to-door campaign, while previously the JUD teams have immunised around 60,000 children in various cities of Sindh.

On the occasion, Saeed said the campaign will expand to other cities of Punjab after its completion in Lahore. He said vaccination campaigns have been organised along the same lines in other provinces as well where even Hindus and Christians were equally treated.

The Punjab government has also started the immunisation week in which as many as 1,500 vaccinators are being utilised. The Health Department has targeted 3million children to be covered during the campaign.

Punjab Health Secretary Arif Nadeem welcomed the JUD’s initiative and said that the government was already providing free vaccination to trust hospitals across the metropolitan, while any initiative from the private sector was appreciated.
