To ensure peaceful conduct of elections on May 11, the Pakistan Army has started deploying troops in Karachi like in other parts of the country.

Officials said over 3,000 army soldiers were being deployed in Karachi as ‘quick response units’ to respond in case of need at any polling station.

On Thursday, ISPR Director General Major General Asim Salim Bajwa said army deployment in Balochistan had been completed, while deployment in KP was underway.

“Army deployment in Punjab also began today while in FATA, the army is already deployed to maintain law and order during elections,” he said.

The army is also providing security cover during the entire process of printing of ballot papers and distribution, for which 50 helicopters would be used.

Bajwa said the army’s deployment throughout the country was being carried out under Article 245 of the constitution.

  1. Army is quick to provide security (or cover) to politicians and to ensure their cronies are elected, what about the Security for the Ordinary People of Pakistan for the last 60 years?
