PPP’s Dharejo escapes attempt on life, clashes erupt at party meeting

Unknown assailants on Thursday opened fire at Pakistan People’s Party candidate Jam Ikramullah Dharejo near Sukkur. The candidate remained unhurt in the attack.

According to details, the police said that Dharejo was driving his car and travelling to a village for his election campaign when armed men on a motorbike fired multiple shots at his vehicle near Sukkur.

A man accompanying Dharejo was injured in the firing but his wounds were not serious.

After the incident, the police arrived at the scene and started investigations.

Dharejo, who is the younger brother of Jam Saifullah Dharejo, is contesting elections from Sindh Assembly constituency PS-III, Sukkur.

Moreover, clashes erupted between supporters of two opposing sides at an election meeting where armed men attacked held workers at gunpoint and looted cash and jewellery.

According to the police, an election meeting was underway at the house of Shaukat Ali, an independent candidate in Chak 27/2-R when supporters of his rival candidate raided the meeting and attacked the participants.

Shaukat Ali accused Ghulam Mohiyuddin, Anwar, Asghar, Sarwar, Arshad for the attack.

Shaukat alleged that the attackers caused damage to his house as they barged in during the meeting.

He said that the attackers resorted to aerial firing, roughed up participants and escaped after snatching gold ornaments and other valuables, including two motorcycles as well. The complainant reported at total loss of Rs 1.5 million to Satgrah Police which registered case against the accused.
