Caretaker govt liable to ensure law & order: Fakhruddin

Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin Ebrahim has said that without establishing peace and maintaining law and order‚ holding free‚ fair and impartial elections are impossible. He was chairing a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He said that holding free and impartial elections in the country is the responsibility of the election commission. However‚ maintaining law and order situation is the responsibility of the caretaker government. Fakhruddin added that the Supreme Court also stressed on the need of peaceful environment in the country for conducting elections.

ECP reviewed the election preparations including the security situation and printing of ballot papers in the meeting. Three members and Secretary ECP also attended the meeting.
