The political parties, which are being targeted by the Taliban for having ‘secular views,’ late on Tuesday said the May 11 polls are being hijacked by “local and international establishment”, a private TV channel reported.

Speaking during a joint press conference held at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) headquarters Nine-Zero in Karachi, Dr Farooq Sattar, Senator Rehman Malik and Senator Shahi Syed reiterated their stance to carry on with their respective electoral campaigns despite the terrorist threats.

At least 60 people have been killed in attacks targeting politicians and political parties across Pakistan since April 11.The three main parties of the outgoing coalition government – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and MQM – had earlier in the day also rejected the call to bring in the army in Sindh.

All three leaders vowed to foil the conspiracy of bringing an extremist, pro-Taliban and right-wing government in the country.

“Militants want to divide Pakistan by bringing a pro-Taliban prime minister in the coming elections,” said PPP leader Rehman Malik.

“Pakistani and international establishment are behind keeping the three liberal political parties of the country away from coming into power,” said MQM’s Farooq Sattar. He said there was no level playing field being provided to all parties on parity.

The MQM leader urged the interim government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to fulfil their constitutional responsibility of ensuring free, fair and transparent elections.

ANP’s Shahi Syed said that a conspiracy is being hatched against spirit of Islam and the survival of Pakistan. “Terrorists cannot frighten us……..it’s about time we stand together against the militants,” he said.

The three leaders, prior to the press conference, held a consultative session to device a joint electoral strategy for the coming polls.

  1. Taliban have effectively banned lawful public meetings and rallies of all the liberal parties.

With the government unwilling to ensure the rights of free movement and gathering for parties representing majority of the country why the affected parties don’t demand of Election Commission to impose outright ban on public meetings and rallies during electioneering.
    .
.Same means of propagation should be available to all the contestants

  2. Politicians like Nawaz & Imran are in cahoots with Taliban terrorists to prevent their opponents from electioneering. It seems authorities are in no mood to stop Nawaz & Imran. The only remote chance is that the voters react positively and vote in favor of PPP, MQM & ANP to thwart all conspiracies. Otherwise, any verdict after 23 years by SC that elections were stolen in 2013 will be no help (like their recent half-hearted verdict on 1990 elections).

  3. This is also a new style election campaign I am pro mqm but feeling sorry to mention that ANP and PPP cannot be our friends they are the ones who successfully passed the old municipal system bill right after our ministers resigned from government. I am fail to understand why MQM is so incusitive to stand with them I can’t forget our marters killed in party clashes. Now i think we should vote some other party because this alliance is again planning for another tenuer.

  4. Last time it was in favor toward these three and now they showing their tilt toward opposite side.this is history of Pakistan but what they did for this country and nation when get clean five year tenure to rule them.

  5. Rehman malik right hand of Asif Zardri is famous for conspircies what all three parties in Govt for the last five years have done,as they are facing defeat in coming elections they have just come with such slogans to befool people.
