The two-day mega literature festival kicked off in a local hotel on Tuesday.
The Oxford University Press (OUP) for the first time gathered 70 professional writers and literature icons in one place.
OUP Managing Director Ameena Saiyid and European Union Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark inaugurated the festival
Wigemark in his opening speech said the event was a very productive activity in promoting professional and established writers. “Such events provide an occasion for brainstorming and widening vision,” he said. He urged to organise such programmes every now and then.
Saiyid said that such literature festivals brought people together from various backgrounds. She said such events broadened view and promoted clarity among people.
Regarding the festival, Saiyid said there would be 40 sessions in the two-day festival and 70 writers would participate in it. Writers from across the country and abroad have come to participate in it, she added.
She stressed that people is larger number should visit the festival. “Everyone should love books and should learn from them.”
The two-day festival has sessions on literature and political issues. The festival will have book launching ceremonies. The stage drama “Wife of a Dictator”, written by a renowned writer Mohammad Hanif who is author of “Exploding Mangos”, will also be presented.
