Capital Administration and Development (CAD) Minister Younus Soomro said on Thursday that 525,000 additional teachers were needed in the country to achieve the universal primary education by 2015.
Soomro said this while addressing the programme titled “Teachers’ Day Out” organised on the occasion of the Global Action Week (GAW) at F-9 Park. The event was attended by about 500 students and teachers from various schools.
The minister emphasized major reforms in the educational system to enhance enrollment and literacy rate in the country. He said tangible steps needed to be taken in consultation with the civil society to secure every child’s right to education guaranteed in Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan. The minister said that role of teachers was of pivotal importance in imparting quality education. He said teachers must be given more facilities
The GAW is an event organised by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) every year and this year’s theme was “Every Child Needs a Teacher”. The week is celebrated in the country by Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE), which is the official partner of the GCE. The GAW’s objective is to highlight the current lack of education in the country and its setbacks on the whole.
