Krajicek of the Netherlands overcame an early setback to upset her Russian opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Groth, who also reached the Brisbane International quarterfinals two months ago, took nearly 90 minutes to overcome the Japanese teenager 7-6 (6), 6-3.
