Violence across Pakistan escalated on Wednesday when several bomb attacks occurred in various parts of the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan were the hardest-hit province as pre-election violence saw an alarming increase.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Eight people were injured in various parts of KP, when explosions took place in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan.
In Peshawar, a bomb blast near Sarki Gate injured two, including a woman.
The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital for treatment, while police collected evidence from the blast site. The blast reportedly took place outside a house.
No injuries were reported in a bomb attack on an election convoy of former MPA Israr Ullah in Dera Ismail Khan. The former MPA was on his way to Rohri for an election campaign, when explosives – planted on the road – exploded.
A toy bomb explosion in Swat left six injured. The injured included three women and a seven-month-old child. The injured were shifted to the Madain Hospital, while the area’s police station filed a report for the case.
Balochistan
Meanwhile, in Quetta, at least 13 people were injured in a bomb blast near a hospital in the Satellite Town.
The blast victims were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police reached the hospital to gather information from the injured to help with the investigation.
Senior police official Fayaz Sumbal said the target of the attack was not yet clear as the injured were mainly bystanders.
There was also no immediate claim of responsibility.
Another blast was reported on Saryab road in Quetta, making it the sixth blast to take place in the last 14 hours.
One car was damaged due to the intensity of the blast.
On April 23, Quetta became the target for four similar blasts injuring and taking the lives of many. The first blast was reported in Jinnah Town, the second one in the Gawalmandi area and the third blast in Mali Bagh. The fourth blast which took place on Pir Mohammad Road was followed by heavy firing.
There were no reports of injuries or casualties.
