Security plan finalised for May 11 polls: Interior Minister

Federal Interior Minister Malik Muhammad Habib on Monday said a comprehensive security plan had been finalised for the upcoming elections scheduled for May 11.
Talking to media personnel, Habib said the government will reconsider a contingency plan on 25th April for further input of security agencies‚ in which consultations will be made with all stakeholders.
The minister said in Monday’s meeting with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), issues relating to security of contesting candidates during election campaigns were discussed.
He said the caretaker government is removing reservations of candidates and political parties relating to security.
He said he would soon visit Karachi‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, where following consultations with stakeholders‚ all concerns will be removed.
Habib expressed his concerns over the law and order situation in Karachi and said the purpose behind his visit to Karachi was to hold meetings with law enforcing agencies and political leaders to overcome the situation.
Responding to a question, he said there is need to review the security arrangements for Awami National Party (ANP) in KP.
The minister further said a draft had been finalised to grant voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.
