Sindh Inspector General of Police (IG) Shahid Nadeem Baloch has ordered early compilation of computerised crime data of terrorists and extremist elements active within and elsewhere outside the province.
Chairing a meeting of Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials at Central Police Office on Sunday, he directed the officials concerned to ensure necessary consultation with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in this regard.
The meeting that extensively reviewed professional affairs of CID department of Sindh Police and the performance of the officials was also attended by Additional Inspector General of
CID Police, DIG Sindh Headquarters, AIG Operations and all SSPs, as well as SPs of the CID.
CID Additional Inspector General (AIG) Iqbal Mahmood presented a report about the performance of the department.
On this, the IG ordered the authorities concerned to formulate a data base on permanent basis about individuals involved in high profile cases as well as those jailed for severe crimes, while adding that record of their relatives and their visitors in jail should also be maintained.
He said data of those released on bail must also be prepared and that all these data compilations must be shared with FIA and police, as well as the intelligence departments of other provinces.
Furthermore, IG Shahid said that authentic and updated data would also help in meaningful and consolidated action to be taken against the culprits.
With regard to financial crime unit and cyber crime unit functional under CID, he said that collaboration with federal government counterparts would facilitate provincial organs in terms of experts and application of modern gadgets.
Making a specific reference towards forensic labs, he said digitalised forensic equipments have helped greatly in collecting evidence from the scene of crime.
Moreover, the provincial police chief said that software available with the CID had and could further facilitate in drawing sketches of the suspects and analysing stress in their voice.
He mentioned that the department was being assisted by Australian Federal Police (AFP) and US Narcotic Affairs Section (NAS) to enable the training of its officials to apply modern forensic gadgets in an effective way.
On the occasion, the IG asked the CID AIG to present him recommendations to further improve administrative structure and performance of the department.
