An election tribunal on Wednesday accepted the appeal of Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sheikh Waqas Akram, allowing him to contest the upcoming elections from NA-89 Jhang IV constituency.

However, sources told Pakistan Today that Akram would not be contesting in elections. However, his father, who had been granted the ticket from PML-N, would be contesting in his place from NA-89, against Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) chief Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi.

He had made this announcement in a large public gathering that even if he got clearance for the election tribunal, his father would remain the candidate for the constituency.

Sources further told Pakistan Today that Akram maintained that he would only contest in elections once the fake degree case was resolved.

Earlier, a returning officer had rejected Akram’s papers  after his A-level certificate was declared fake. Akram was the former federal minister for education and training.

The appeal filed by Akram against the returning officer’s decision was accepted by the election tribunal.

Akram, who contested NA-89 on the PML-Quaid’s ticket, emerged victorious after securing 51,733 votes, while Ludhianvi secured 44,894 votes as an independent candidate.

Furthermore, an election tribunal rejected the appeal filed by Pakistan Muslim League–Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain for contesting the NA-104 constituency in Jallalpur Jattan-Karianwala.

Chaudhry Wajahat is the younger brother of PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

The objections on Chaudhry Wahajat’s papers stated that he did not declare his assets correctly.

Moreover, an election tribunal disqualified Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Aslam Madhiana from contesting the upcoming elections.

Madhiana’s nomination papers were earlier rejected by a returning officer and the PPP leader had appealed against the decision.

Based in Sargodha, Madhiana had intended to contest elections from PP-31.

The PPP leader, last year, was accused of beating an elderly school teacher and breaking his legs.

  2. What a matter of shame when we see that so-called "liberal" PPP & its Bteam (PTI) have electoral alliance with ASWJ candidate Maulana Ludhianvi against PML-N !!!

All these banned outfits and the evil forces of PPP/PTI/PMLQ will fail in their nefarious design to block PML-N from winning the elections with heavy mandate.
