The National Book Foundation (NBF) will hold a three-day book festival from April 20 to April 22 to celebrate National Book Day that falls on April 22.

The celebrations are aimed at reviving the book reading culture among students. Eminent writers, poets, intellectuals, columnists and representatives of civil society will grace the book-festival and highlight the theme: “Back to Book-Read for Life”.

NBF Managing Director Mazhar-ul-Islam said that book lovers, youths, teachers, members of civil society, budding writers and general public would be the part of the festival. He said it was for the first time in Pakistan’s history that prominent writers and intellectuals would communicate with their readers and answer their questions.

Islam said the foundation prides itself on initiating National Book Day celebrations in the country. “This is the fourth consecutive mega-book event being organized by the NBF at the national level,” he added.

Intizar Hussain, Mian Raza Rabbani, Asad Mohammad Khan, Nazir Naji, Ahmed Aqeel Rubi, Attaul Haq Qasmi, Mehmood Sham, Amjad Islam Amjad, Asghar Nadeem Syed and Asim Butt will participate in the festival. Renowned artist Talat Hussain will read from Noon Meem Rashid. Mustansar Hussain Tarar, Fahmida Riaz, Zahida Hina, Masood Ashar, Javed Jabbar and Dr Wahid Ahmed will also read from their selected books to inspire the audience. A question answer session will be held at the end of each reading session.
