Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Ishtiak Ahmed on Tuesday said security situation was not a hurdle in holding free, fair and transparent according to schedule.
He said, “Security situation is not satisfactory but despite the fact the ECP would hold elections in all districts of the country and FATA on time.”
The security situation in Punjab, which is 60 percent of the total population, is satisfactory; however the law and order situation in Karachi is an issue while in the remaining part of Sindh the situation is normal.
He said that law and order in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is not satisfactory.
However, he said ECP would hold a meeting with the interim provincial governments within the next 10 days to finalise security plan.
He said local Police, Rangers and Army has been assigned to provide security to political leadership in the troubled areas.
He said it was good omen that nearly 14 political parties are participating in the election in Balochistan while all political parties of KPK are actively taking part in the democratic process.
To a question, he said, a total of 500 teams of the ECP have been deployed across the country to monitor the election campaign with the help of 1,000 video cameras aiming to detect violation of code of conduct.
