Musharraf barred from elections: all nomination papers rejected

Election tribunals have declared Pervez Musharraf, PPP candidate Syed Asif Hashmi and two former provincial ministers from Sindh ineligible for contesting polls.

The former military strongman’s nomination papers were also rejected on Tuesday from NA-32 Chitral, after being earlier disqualified from three other constituencies.

Musharraf’s lawyer said they would contest the decision in the High Court.

Earlier in the day, an election tribunal had decided against an appeal filed by Musharraf challenging the returning officer’s rejection of his nomination papers for NA-48 (Islamabad-I).

Balochistan High Court (BHC) has suspended conviction of Ali Madad Jattak in the fake degree case and reserved judgment till today on the appeals filed against the rejection of nomination papers.

Application of Syed Asif Hashmi, a PPP candidate from NA-118 and PP-137 came up for hearing before Election Tribunal (ET) comprising Justice Khawaja Imtiaz and Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan.

ET upheld the ET decision on disqualification of Hashmi ruling that appellate had not completed two years period after quitting his government job.

Another ET comprising Justice Rauf Ahmad Sheikh and Justice Mamoon Rashid rejected appeal filed by former president Pervez Musharraf against rejection of his nomination papers.

Nadim Ahmad Shah advocate while giving arguments on behalf of 12 parties said former president held in abeyance the constitution twice and tried to worsen the situation in the country through proclamation of emergency. He kept 15 judges of superior judiciary under house arrest and he failed to deliver his pledge for doing off his uniform by December, 31, 2004. “He lied to the nation; therefore, he does not fulfill the provision of Sadiq and Amin and his appeal be struck down he said

Malik Qamar Afzal counsel for Pervez Musharraf contended that law says no one can be declared disqualified unless charges are proved against him.

A 2-member ET of Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld Returning Officer (RO) decision on rejection of nomination papers of PTI candidate Chaudhry Wahid Asghar Dogar from PP-224 Chichawatni. He has filed appeal against ET decision in LHC.

A 3-member LHC bench has admitted appeal plea of Naeem Rashid a candidate from PP-226 against rejection of his nomination papers and allowed him to take part in the elections.

Election Tribunals declared former ministers of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and Nadir Magsi ineligible.

On the other hand Election Commission has rejected appeal plea filed by Bilal Yasin of PML-N against acceptance of nomination papers of Aisha Ahad from NA-119 and declared her eligible to contest the polls.

  1. Revenge of Judiciary.
    He has been handed guilty verdict without trial whereas proven corrupt politicians are being permitted to contest. What a hypocrisy.

  2. This rat should not be allowed to leave the ship now . Court should ask for submission of his passport. This is the standard procedure by US courts when some body is at risk to leave the country. That same procedure should be followed here too.

  3. Nothing surprising. All along this outcome was known even to the most stupid of people, given Musharraf's misdeeds. Only this idiot (Musharraf) did not foresee this situation.

  4. Corrupt people will never let him to take part in election because he was making progress in pakistan
