Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt approached the Supreme Court on Monday seeking more time to surrender to serve his remaining three-and-a-half-year jail term for illegally possessing firearms in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. The son of famous Bollywood couple late Sunil Dutt and Nargis filed the petition as the period of four weeks granted by the apex court for his surrender comes to an end this week. He pleaded that he should be granted more time to surrender in order to complete his film projects as huge money has been invested by the producers in these projects and these would be affected. The apex court had on March 21 granted Dutt, who had earlier spent 18 months in jail, to surrender within four weeks to undergo the remaining prison term. The actor has maintained that he knew nothing about the bombing plot and that he asked for the guns to protect his family during sectarian riots in Mumbai. The court will hear his appeal on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear how much time Dutt is seeking from the court.
