Anti-polio campaign launched, 16.5m children to be vaccinated

The three-day National Immunization Campaign against Polio has been launched in Punjab and will continue till April 17.

Punjab Health Department spokesperson said that during the anti-polio campaign, polio vaccine would be administered to 16.5 million children up to the age of five years.

He said that the Health Department had constituted 32,899 mobile teams, which would go door-to-door for administering polio drops. He said that the Health Department has deputed 4,114 fixed teams, at the static points, in all the hospitals and medical centres. Moreover, 2,119 vaccination teams have been deputed at exist points of the cities. He said that the Health Department has also established units at airports, railway stations, bus terminals and toll plazas on motorway to administer polio drops to the children travelling around the province.

Meanwhile, Health Department has also urged upon the parents to get polio drops administered to their children for saving them from a lifelong disability.
