Govt committed to ensure religious freedom to Sikhs

The Government is committed to ensure complete religious freedom to Sikhs, and provide maximum facilities and funds for the upkeep of Sikh temples in the country. This was stated by Caretaker Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, National Harmony, Regulation and Heritage Shahzada Jamal on Saturday.

He was delivering his key note address at the closing ceremony of “Bhog” at the three-day Baisakhi festival of the Sikh community at Gurdawara Punja Sahib Hassanabdal. He said that government has already taken certain steps to facilitate Sikh pilgrims during their stay in

Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Ch. Riaz said ETPB in co-ordination with Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had provided boarding and lodging facilities to pilgrims, besides the facelift of temples. A number of projects are in the pipeline to further extend these facilities, he added.

Leader of Indian Sikh pilgrims Sardar Balwindar Singh lauded the Pakistani government for provision of facilities to the Sikh pilgrims. President Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Sardar Sham Singh also spoke on the occasion.
