The Health Department Rawalpindi has declared 15 union councils in the district as sensitive for the risk to polio teams, and decided not to launch an advertisement campaign in these areas, besides taking help of the police force to ensure safety of the polio teams.

A total of 1,400 teams have been formed for the polio vaccination campaign starting next week. The teams will administer anti-polio vaccine to the children, besides setting up camps on bus stands and chowks. The health officials would also be responsible for administrating anti-polio drops to the kids less than five years of age on all exit and entry points of the city.

The health department declared 15 union councils including UC one to nine, 28, 29, 36, 37, 38 and 43 as sensitive. The polio teams have been directed to take extra care in polio vaccination in the area.

When contacted, Rawalpindi District Officer (Health) Dr Khalid Randhawa said thorough arrangements for polio vaccination have been made in the district on the directives of the provincial government. He said strict action will be taken against the officials who show negligence in discharging their duties during the campaign.
