A major reshuffle took place on Thursday in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) with one of their key officers dealing with internal security being shifted to Pannu Aqil in Sindh.
According to a local newspaper, shifting of Maj General Arif Warriach from the ISI, where he was dealing with internal security as successor to former two-star generals Ihtesham Zamir and M Zaki, to Pannu Aqil (16 Division) was a routine matter.
Many defence analysts interpreted this reshuffle showing that the military leadership or the ISI would go in a routine manner of posting-shifting without indication of doing anything with the elections on May 11.
Just weeks before the elections, the ISI’s important officers have been shifted without considering the aspect of elections on May 11, said an officer.
Three major generals , Naveed Mukhtar, Nasir Dilawar and Farhan Ahmed, have been shifted to the ISI replacing Maj Generals Arif Warriach, Maqsood Ahmed (who on promotion was appointed corps commander, Lahore, some time ago), and Allah Ditta. However, Maj General Patudi remains in the ISI dealing with sensitive subjects.
Shifting of Arif Warriach was the most important as he was brought to the ISI on his promotion some two years ago from Karachi, where he served as sector commander ISI.
Maj General Zahid was posted as director general personnel service in the GHQ while Maj General Allah Ditta had also been moved out of the ISI to 21 Artillery Division. Maj General Naveed had been moved from the 21 Artillery Division to Log Area Karachi and Maj Gen Abid (37 Division) was sent to Log Area, Peshawar.
Maj General Ghulam Dastagir has been shifted from the Log Area, Quetta, to director-general O&M in the GHQ.
On their promotion to next rank, Brig Muazzam was posted at the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Brig Anjum Enayat (GOC), Brig Farhat Abbas Sani (GOC 3 Div), Brig Humayun Aziz (2 Artillery Div), Brig Anwaar ul Haq Chaudhry, Commandant Military College of Engineering, Brig Naeem Ashraf (25 Mechanized Div), Brig Aftab Khan (Sector Commander, Lahore), Brig Mushtaq (Chief of Logistic Staff Secretariat, GHQ), Brig Tayyab Azam, (Sector Commander KPK), Brig Iftikhar Aamir (Sector Commander Balochistan), and Brig Aamer Aslam (15 Division).
