The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday summoned officials of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) seeking an explanation over a petition submitted against the clean chit given to a large number of candidates for the upcoming elections.

According to media reports, a larger bench of the LHC resumed hearing of a petition seeking implementation of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution in order to stop ineligible candidates from contesting upcoming general elections.

The petitioner Shahid Pardesi stated that there was ambiguity in the rules and regulations of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and that the general elections should have been announced after the ambiguities were cleared.

Furthermore, the petitioner stated that the FBR had cleared a large number of political candidates and questioned the law under which the candidates were cleared in such a short span of time.

The court admitted the petition for hearing and summoned FBR officials to appear before the bench on Friday, seeking an explanation in this regard.
