The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have reached an agreement on seat adjustment in 87 National Assembly and 186 provincial assembly seats in central Punjab.
However, the two parties failed to make a decision on Gujrat seat, for which both Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi are contesting.
According to reports, talks between the leadership of the two parties continued for eight hours to arrive at a settlement to the satisfaction of their candidates.
Under the seat adjustment, PPP would get 80 seats and PML-Q 20 seats from 100 National Assembly seats in central Punjab.
For Punjab Assembly seats, the PML-Q has been given 48 seats and PPP 152 seats of the 200 seats.
It is understood that four to six constituencies would be left for open contest.
Sources said if no agreement was reached for NA-105 Gujrat over the candidature of Elahi and Mukhtar, it would raise a serious question over the survival of alliance of the two parties.
