Development fund worth Rs 1 billion allocated for the city’s industrial zones is likely to be released by the federal government soon.
This was stated by Caretaker Sindh Minister for Industries and Production Khalid Tawab while speaking at a dinner hosted in the honour of Advisor to Chief Minister (CM) on Information Technology Mian Zahid Hussain by Shan Paper Chairman Rehan Jawed Shaikh here at a local hotel.
The minister said he would strive hard to get the pending funds released for the city’s industrial zones so that the development work in those areas, particularly on the dilapidated road network in SITE, could be completed. He informed the gathering that Rs 250 million was allocated for each zone.
He said he would be proceeding to Islamabad to meet the caretaker prime minister soon.
Speaking in the capacity of chief guest, SM Muneer said the law and order situation in the metropolitan was getting better after the coalition government left. He added that crime rate in the biggest commercial and industrial hub of the country had also plummeted ever since.
He pointed out that the same police and rangers’ were controlling the law and order in the metropolitan in an effective way, as previously they were helpless when the coalition government was in place. He said that the law and order situation was getting a bit better but had yet to be normalized, adding that the caretaker government should have taken serious steps to maintain law and order situation for the purpose of holding free and fair elections.
Furthermore, he said that the business community’s representation in the caretaker cabinet was due to the efforts of the Sindh governor as he had nominated the business representatives after taking recommendations. He advised the general masses as well as the business community to vote for honest and patriotic candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Meanwhile, Zahid Hussain said that though the caretaker cabinet had a very limited time to work, the stakeholders would strive hard to set some good precedence. He said that the first and foremost task of caretakers was to hold fair and free elections.
He further said that he would be available to the business community as well as to the general public all the time during his tenure and would try to resolve their issues to the best of his abilities. Speaking on the occasion, the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry Chairman Mohammad Zubair Chhaya said that law and order situation of the metropolitan, particularly in industrial areas, had been improved during the tenure of the caretaker set up. He however hoped that the caretaker government would make every possible effort to fully bring the situation under control.
He said that it was encouraging that representatives of the business community have been made a part of the caretaker cabinet as part of a significant first step.
Caretaker ministers Sardar Yasin, Iqbal Dawood Pakwala, FPCCI President Zubair Malik and host Rehan Jawed also spoke on the occasion.
