Preservation of heritage must for tourism: Salima Hashmi

Interim Provincial Minister for Health, Population Welfare and Archaeology Departments Salima Hashmi has said that international tourism can be promoted in the country only if preservation of archaeological and ancient heritages in the country is ensured.
This she said while presiding over a session of Punjab Archaeology Department here on Saturday.
The provincial minister stressed the need for conservation and preservation of the residence of the great writer Urdu literary figure Saadat Hassan Minto, located in Lakshmi building.
Talking on the occasion, she emphasised that there was a need to establish institutions for study, training and research in the subject of archaeology to train professional archaeologists in country with the available resources.
She called upon all outstanding and highly qualified archaeologists to conserve the antiquities and historic buildings of the province, adding that this work could not be carried out to perfection by ordinary archaeologists.
Punjab Archaeology Department Director General Dr Ismat Tahira briefed the minister about the steps being taken for the preservation of historically significant buildings.
