The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday restrained Returning Officers (ROs) from asking irrelevant questions from candidates filing papers to contest in the upcoming general election, media sources reported.
ECP DG Sher Afgan told media personnel that the election watchdog issued directives to ROs to avoid asking unnecessary questions from candidates.
Earlier on Friday, the Lahore High Court had also issued similar instructions to ROs and said they could only ask questions on information provided by candidates in their nominations papers.

  1. ECP should tell us who allow them to ask such questions which were not seen in past.this is more important than this latest decree of ECP.

  2. In my perception, it is very difficult to draw a line precisely between relevant and irrelevant questions. For example, if a candidate , in reply to a question, say that he has three wives, that would reflect one's mindset particularly of that class of feudal lords. and thisalso looks strange asking questions to these prospecting MPAs. MNAs that factually no one can dare questioning them. Even a traffic constable cannot question that why he or she has broken traffic regulation threatienng lives of other innocent citizens.
