Jolly LLB’ director Subhash Kapoor who was in town for the Patna Literary Fest says he is ready to wait for Dutt for another three years to make the next ‘Munnabhai’ film.
Is this your first visit to Patna?
No, I have been to Patna before in 1998 when I was working as a journalist for an interview with Laluji.
Jolly LLB is a satire on the realities of our courts. Is satire your favourite genre?
I have always depicted my thoughts through my movies. If you watch Jolly LLB or Phas Gaye Re Obama, these movies have depicted the reality of the society and if the reality is portrayed in a comic or satirical manner, the audiences tend to connect to it and enjoy it more. In both these movies people have liked this style, so yes, it is my favourite genre and I would like to continue in it. I was able to convey my thoughts through satire.
Where did the idea of Jolly LLB come from?
I was a journalist before I turned into a filmmaker. I have been to a few courts chasing a few stories and then I realized that filmy courts are far away from the reality and this has never been portrayed in Hindi cinema. I have never seen a witness box or a Bhagwat Gita in a real court. That’s how I decided to make a film which depicts the reality of the courts in our country.
