ECP confirms 54 parliamentarians as fake degree holders

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared fake the degrees of 52 former and two current parliamentarians and has uploaded the list on its official website.

According to news reports, 14 of the fake degree-holders were former MNAs, 35 were MPAs, three were former senators and two were still members of the Senate.

Fourteen of the fake degrees were issued by madrassas, nine by the Punjab and Sindh University each and three fake degrees were issued by the Peshawar University.

List of the fake degree-holders includes names of Humayun Aziz Kurd, Sardar Umar Gorgage, Akhunzada Chattan, Hayatullah Khan Tareen, Ghulam Dastageer Rajar, Dewaan Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, Mazhar Hayat, Malik Amir Yar Warn, Javed Hussain Shah, Moulvi Agha Muhammad, Nasir Ali Shah and Moulvi Haji Rozdeen.

According to the ECP, 35 provincial assemblies’ members also held fake degrees and therefore had breached articles 62, 63. They were former KP minister Aqil Shah, Shumaila Rana, Kishore Kumar, Bashir Ahmed Khan Leghari, Khalifa Abdul Qayyum Khan and Wasim Afzal Gondal.

Five senators, of whom three were former and two current, all from Balochistan, were listed by the ECP as fake degree-holders. Three of them had completed their tenures while Mir Israr Ullah Zehri and Nawabzada Akbar were still senators. The ECP neither declared them ineligible nor suspended their memberships.
