The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to verify degrees of 189 members of Parliament (MPs) within three days.
Those who are unable to get their degrees verified will be disqualified from the upcoming elections, said the country’s apex court.
Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary said the court will not cater individual cases later and only candidates whose educational documents are verified within the stipulated time period will be given the green signal. The CJ went on to say illiterate persons could contest elections and become MPs if people voted them to power but those misrepresenting their educational qualifications would be disqualified.
