According to sources, as many as 110,000 people from various sections of the society including students, scholars and teachers visited the 3-day book fair at Punjab University (PU) which concluded on Sunday at the varsity’s new campus.

PU Chief Librarian Muhammad Hanif said that all visitors were offered special discount of up to 60 percent of the books’ price and nearly over 200,000 books on different subjects were sold at 160 book stalls allotted through computerized balloting. He said 20 high level committees were formed to ensure peaceful atmosphere at the fair. The fair had received unprecedented response from the leading publishers, printers and book sellers for taking participation in the fair but only 160 were allotted stalls through computerised balloting.

However, on the other hand, university administration made it clear that no student organisation was involved in holding the fair and it was only a solo show of varsity.
