As many as two people were killed and six others, including former MPA Wazir Janikhel, were injured in a blast on Sunday.
According to details, unidentified terrorists targeted the former KP MPA in FR Bannu when he was on his way to address an election campaign gathering.
Two people were killed on the spot while six others including the former lawmaker, his aide Malik Khaqan and police constable Wasim were injured.
The injured were rushed to Bannu Hospital for treatment from where seriously injured people were referred to Peshawar.
The banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the bomb attack near an election rally in Bannu and for Saturday’s suicide attack in Mardan which had claimed the life of a policeman.
TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said that the banned organisation was behind the remote-controlled bomb attack in Bannu which had targeted the Awami National Party (ANP) leader.
Meanwhile, unidentified terrorists bombed Wali Ayaz Primary School in Mandan. However, no causalities were reported as nobody was present at the time of the explosion.
Separately, the police foiled a terror bid after defusing a suicide jacket in Akhwan Baba locality of Mardan.
According to Parhoti Police Station House Officer (SHO) Nihar Khan, they received a tip-off regarding the presence of the suicide jacket in Akhwan Baba.
Heavy contingents of police reached the scene along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and defused the jacket.
