Police to address all problems of business community: IGP

The business community is playing a vital role in promoting the local economy and Islamabad Police will take every possible measure to address all problems of businessmen, Islamabad Inspector General Police Baniyamin Khan said while addressing the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Saturday.

Baniyamin said that no bomb blast took place in the federal capital since August, 2011 which shows the performance of Islamabad Police in maintaining peace in the federal capital. He said that there were 164 entry-exit points of federal capital but due to security reasons, Islamabad Police has revised the security plan and reduced them to 55, which resulted in reduction of crime rate by up to 20 percent.

He said Islamabad Police had acquired two new ambulances for the facilitation of citizens, moreover, he requested for support from the business community for provision of free medicines for the rescue purpose of citizens as well as provision of greater cooperation to make the security system more efficient.

IG police said that there was no doubt that citizens were facing problems due to pickets and barriers but these were necessary to ensure tight security. He said for the facilitation of citizens and ensuring their convenience, Islamabad Police has reduced these pickets and barriers from 174 to only 74.

Also speaking at the occasion, ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari said that the country was passing through a phase in which security had become an important issue.

Bakhtawari emphasised on promoting the idea of citizen police liaison committee and said that through private sector’s participation, police could reduce crime and provide more protection to the society.

He also called for removing of unnecessary pickets and barriers which were put on different points all around the city and were causing immense problem for commuters. He assured full support of business community to the police in making the city secure.

ICCI President lauded Islamabad Police for recovering famous businessman and owner of Mr Books, who was abducted by unidentified people; that too without paying ransom.

Tariq Sadiq and Munawar Mughal, former presidents of ICCI also addressed the gathering and appreciated Islamabad Police for maintaining security in the federal capital.
