In what appears to be a rare move in Pakistan, a member of Pakistan’s transgender community filed her nomination papers to contest the country’s forthcoming elections from Karachi.
In 2012, the community celebrated their most precious victory when they were allowed for the first time to register for vote identifying themselves as a third sex – transgender.
Bindya Rani, a transgender citizen – also known here as eunuchs or hijra – arrived here in the city court and filed her nomination papers. She said she would contest polls on provincial Sindh Assembly seat, PS-115.
