In an unprecedented development, all political and religious parties of Dir Lower district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have expressed willingness to allow women of the region to cast their votes and demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to increase polling stations for women in the district.

A meeting of all the political and religious parties was arranged at the Timergara Rest House by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to discuss the forthcoming general elections.

Local leaders from JI, ANP, JUI-F, PTI, PML-N and other parties attended the meeting. Participants of the meeting expressed willingness to allow women to cast their votes in the general elections and said six polling stations for women in the district were quite insufficient. They said the ECP should increase the number of polling stations and provide a conducive environment for the polls.

The meeting agreed on a code of conduct for the elections and decided that ethical norms would be upheld while running the election campaign. The meeting also asked the district administration to avoid unnecessary interference in the polling process.

The leaders of different parties also held a meeting with district commissioner and commandant Dir Scouts and informed them about their reservations.
