Islamabad Police constituted on Wednesday special teams to curb the menace of begging and to take prompt legal action against professional alms-seekers.

“Following the directions of Islamabad Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan, heads of all police stations launched an effective crackdown against alms-seekers and registered cases against them,” a press release said.

The IGP directed all police officials to constitute special police teams to patrol in shopping centres and markets to arrest professional beggars. He was told that Islamabad police had arrested 15 beggars during the last three days and action was taken against them as per law. The IGP said that mischievous elements wandered in the city disguised as beggars.

“Strict action is needed to curb such activities,” he said.
