The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered giving financial autonomy to the services tribunal and keeping it out of the influence of the government.
A three-member SC bench presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up for hearing the case of appointments of chairmen in federal and provincial service tribunals.
The SC ordered that legislation be made within 30 days on this matter and the appointment of chairman and members of service tribunals would be considered nullified if the legislation was not made.
“The appointment of chairmen of all service tribunals should be made in consultation with the CJP,” the court ruled.
A petition was filed in the SC that no consultation was being made with the CJP in connection with the appointment of chairmen of federal and provincial service tribunals and the law was being breached that way.
Financial sovereignty was also not being accorded and due to this, the tribunals were not taking their decisions independently.
The court had earlier reserved the judgment and announced it on Monday.

Services Tribunal should be completely free from bureaucracy and political control, because the greviances that need to addressed are done by this very ruling elite. People wait for years and most of them die without getting any relief.

I appreciate the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan and pay salute to Chudhri Iftikhar Hussain by taking such action against Federal Service Tribunal, because through this action of S.C Tribunal will be free of BEUROCRATIC and POLITICAL chains, also Tribunal will be free of CORRUPTION, especially the leader of corruption MEER MUHAMMAD KHAN (member in Islamabad tribunal)
Its heartening to find out that ordinary employees are normally kept deprived of their justified rights and more grieving is the fact that they have no voice. If these tribunals are truly made run by qualified and pro welfare service individuals in accordance with CJP's ruling in letter and spirit, employees can regain their self respect.
Please also highlight case of Samina Pervez DG Radio Pakistan, that she was merely appointed as caretaker DG and is still continuing to work in same capacity and is only ruining the broadcast business over there, making unnecessary reshuffles, terminating employees prejudicially, reinstating retired employees, driving off experienced FM anchors…. Though she is herself illegitimate appointment, as ruled out by CJP, besides she was a caretaker arrangement with no authority of hiring or firing.. but unfortunately her bureaucratic ties are seeing no limit.
I request the Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan that retired judges may not be posted in the Services Tribunals because they do not care the urgency and grievances of the employees but pass their time like a pensioner and they also do not aware of the recent rules. I am sorry to say that recently a chairman of SST did not agree with the authority passed by the Honourable SC regarding giving copy of the Inquiry Report to the accused and informing him the action being taken against him before final order. This is because the judge after retirement remain in retired life for 7 years and he was unaware of the recent authorities.
