CDA observes Earth Hour

The Capital Development Authority on Saturday joined hands with the international community by observing the Earth Hour 2013 to promote the cause of sustainable environment, energy conservation and mitigate efforts of climate change.

The Earth Hour ceremony was held at Faisal Masjid in which CDA officers and workers participated. CDA Planning and Design Member Syed Mustafain Kazmi switched off the lights of the building as a symbolic act of observing the Earth Hour.

Addressing the ceremony, Kazmi said that CDA was dedicatedly striving to create a safe living environment in Islamabad. The CDA was adopting the sound principle of sustainable urban development, conservation of natural resources, restoration of natural the ecosystem and minimising the use of non-renewable resources.

He said efforts were also being made to adopt the best practices for reducing consumption of energy and carbon emission.

“The unique green character of Islamabad – The Green City speaks volumes of the concrete efforts of CDA for protection of the Margallah Hills National Park Area and conservation of the natural environment,” he said.

Kazmi said in order to actively participate in the Earth Hour, CDA switched off the lights of the landmarks of the city, including 7th Avenue, D-Chowk, Constitution Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, Parliament House, Cabinet Block, Daman-e-Koh and Pakistan Monument from between 8 30 PM to 9 30 PM.

He called upon the public, private organisations, civil society and people from different walks of life to fully participate in the Earth Hour Celebrations to help make our mother earth more livable.
