After the arrival of former president Pervez Musharraf, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has again requested Mark Seigel, a key witness against Musharraf, to come Pakistan for recording a statement in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Sources in prosecution said FIA officials were trying to bring Mark Seigel, an American journalist and friend of Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan for making the case against Musharraf stronger. Mark Seigel held Musharraf responsible for the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
The prosecution of the case decided to record his statement in anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi, but Siegel refused to come to Pakistan due to the security situation.
The FIA has again contacted him via email and requested him to come to Pakistan to record his statement.
FIA Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali also filed an application before the trial court two months ago in which he requested the court to record Seigel’s statement through video link, but the matter has not yet been decided by the court.
On the other hand, Naseer Tanoli, counsel for the accused, said this was not an ordinary case in which any witness could refuse to appear before court.
“There is no issue of security in the country and Seigel should come to Pakistan if he wants to share anything regarding the assassination of Benazir Bhutto,” Tanoli said.
